Project 3 – Old School (Part 2)

TASK ONE- (3D)

This task required us to use thick paper or thin card to create a perfect white cube, each side being 60mm long, a perfect cylinder 60mm high with a diameter of 50mm and lastly, a perfect pyramid 60mm high with a base width of 50mm.

These shapes were actually a lot harder to make than I thought, especially the cylinder. My shapes came out looking good with the right measurements however some of the glue got on my thin card and made them look a bit dirty however I was still very happy with how they turned out.

TASK TWO- (3D)

Task 2 required us to use black thick paper or thin card to create a three dimensional capital letter R. We needed to use Rockwell extra bold and the letter needed to be 140mm high and 40mm deep. This was the most time consuming project as for some reason I found sticking my R together really difficult which made my R look very messy.

TASK THREE- (3D)

We needed to make surface patterns creating cutting and folding techniques. We needed to experiment with our own designs and once finished, light them dramatically and take good quality photographs of them. I found these really fun from making them to taking dramatic photos of them. I personally think they look very simple yet effective.

TASK FOUR- POP UP

Our last task was to illustrate a well known saying eg. ‘A stitch in time saves nine’ as a pop up. It needed to be on A4 when closed and A3 when open flat. It needed to be created primarily using coloured appear and any over drawing should be kept to a minimum. As shown above, I made two versions, a very plain and a more colourful. I chose the saying ‘a piece of cake’ as I’ve heard that saying so much in my life and I thought it would be nice to see what I come up with. My first attempt was my very colourful, fun and playful version which I really loved how it came out however, I did think it might be too much so I made a very plain version and presented both in my feedback.

AFTER FEEDBACK

After my feedback I knew my R was going to get the lowest mark as I knew it didn’t look too pleasant, however, overall my feedback was good and my pop ups got the highest mark suggesting why I didn’t really change anything or tweak anything.
